We have a AD named cbdomain.com(it used internally,and we can't resolve it in internet), we install exchange 2007 in 2008 r2 named mail.cbdomain.com(all role in the same server and it is a dc ,cas role ,mailbox role,hub tranport role).the mail-domain name is stcntest.com(we can resolve it in internet),when configured outlook anywhere ,the autodiscovery return the microsoft exchage server named mail.cbdomain.com,because i can't control it ,i must add a entry in hosts and it works. how can i change the returned mail.cbdomain.com to something that i can resolve in internet? sorry for my poor english,thank in advance

Autodiscover will return the real name of the server, however that doesn't affect Outlook Anywhere. As long as you have configured Outlook Anywhere with the correct host name then it should connect. The AD domain name that you have used, does it belong to someone else? If not, can you register it? If it does, and the host name of your server resolves on the Internet to an IP address that is now owned by you, then you might be stuck with using hosts files. The automatic Outlook Anywhere failover system depends on the host name of the Exchange server failing to resolve. Personally I would have renamed the domain before installing Exchange. Thank for your prompt response,i configured outlook anywhere with external host name named mail.stcntest.com,Autodiscover returned the real name of the server named mail.cbdomain.com,if i did't add a host entry into hosts files to specify the ip address of mail server, outlook client can't login to server,if i added,it work like a charm.gwl7810

Autodiscover should return both names - it will return the name of the Exchange server and the host name for Outlook Anywhere. You need to check to see whether it is returning both items. However as I have already said, the problem may well be out of your control if the other domain is not something that you can get control of and has a wildcard in their domain. thank you, if i add host entry to hosts that resolve mail.cbdomain.com to ip address of mail server ,autodiscover return both items,microsoft exchange server named mail.cbdomain.com and mail.stcntest.com in microsoft exchange proxy setting tab . Does the real server hostname need resolve ? or there is something wrong in setting. apology for my poor english gwl7810

The server's real name does not have to resolve on the Internet - but if it does then that will cause a problem with Outlook Anywhere. It will take longer for Outlook Anywhere to start because Outlook will attempt to connect to that server first using TCP before it tries the HTTPS connection. If your autodiscover is setup correctly, then adding the name to hosts file shouldn't make any difference. Ensure that autodiscover.example.com resolves to the Exchange server and is one of the additional names in the SSL certificate (where example.com is your own public domain name). thank you ,i will try to correct it. The server's real name does not have to resolve on the Internet i created a private ca and issused a san certificate to the mail server,now autodiscover privisioned outlook client,it works like charm. appreciated your help gwl7810
